Finalist in the Te Pae Tawhiti Awards!

Welcome to Miracle is a finalist in the 2025 Te Pae Tawhiti Awards!

It was such an honour to receive the news that Welcome to Miracle has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Te Pae Tawhiti Awards in the category of Outstanding Achievement for Middle Grade Fiction.

Te Pae Tawhiti Distant Horizons is a juried award to celebrate the achievement of speculative fiction authors of Aotearoa and the Pacific.

Their kaupapa for this important project is described by writer, Jade Kate:

“Te pae tawhiti is both literally and metaphorically a distant horizon, to be aimed for but never reached. Te pae tawhiti also references the whakataukī Ko te pae tawhiti whāia kia tata, Ko te pae tata whakamaua kia tīna which speaks to trying to bring distant horizons closer (achieving lofty goals) whilst also valuing that which is close at hand (goals that have already been achieved). The idea of te pae tawhiti relates to the speculative fiction genre(s), which when considered in its broadest possible sense involves imagining possible futures, places and scenarios that we can imagine but never quite reach. The distant horizon also evokes ideas of boundless potential and limitless imagination.”
